Late Post-Halloween blog

The day after my last blog a friend of mine had a get-together on Halloween. The intent of this was to play video games together, eat candy, and to generally “have a blast”(to him and I at least). Oh but not to other other two guests, they complained about “only playing video games” though they never suggested anything else to do and came knowing that we had this planned mainly for video games. After all, we did this last year and a year before. We ended up playing Halo2 most of the time as Super Smash Brothers was just a joke to them. Pressing the start button and laughing at the characters every 5 seconds wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.

Moving on, I was going to play a ton of Tales of the Tempest last week, even though RPG’s are near impossible to play during the school year(ie: Summon night: Swordcraft story). To start, I’ll give it credit for being able to guide me when I couldn’t understand Japanese, but it fell short overall and I’ve stopped playing it. Bad controlls, buggy free-roaming, and flat-out boring fights. It’s totally missing what Tales of Symphonia had, and is nowhere near as much fun as Summon night. So without further basing the game, I will say I’ll give it another chance when I get my hands on the English version. So what have I been playing this week?

What I’ve been really playing this week is the new Kirby DS “squeak squad”. I’ve been a huge fan of kirby ever since I got some quality time with the SNES version a few moths ago. I’m happy to say it’s just as good, even though there are a few changes here-and-there. It’s way better than the GBA outings though, in both 2D animation and design. The story is not as compelling as something along the lines of DQH: rocket slime, but it’s got plenty of…dare I say it…”charm”. Kirby gets his slice of cake stolen by something mysterious, suspects King Dee dee dee, and goes to his castle while killing everything in his path. Only to find: whoops, wasn’t him after all. Turns out it’s this “squeak squad”… and the rest is all kinda mysterious to me(well…Japanese). I thought I was close to beating it the other day, but then it showed me this one wall where there’s a bunch of stars, and one was missing. So I’m going back to every level to collect these treasure boxes and see what happens. Hell I don’t mind, second time playing thought these levels reveals areas I totally missed on my first play-through. To accompany great gameplay and level design , the music totally rocks. Some of it I recognize from the GBA and SNES versions, while others seem new or remixed beyond recognition. I probably won’t make a review for this game, but I will tell you this is a must buy for platformer fans with a DS.

I’m going to wrap-up this blog with a “WTH?!” moment:

What the hell Nintendo power!? This game is worth much more than a 6.5!
