Busy weekdays, lazy weekend.

Busy days at school this week, and I actually did my homework!
(j/k…though…I mean, did…)
So naturally I had a lazier weekend than normal. On Saturday I played 4 hours strait of non-stop Summon Night: Swordcraft story(how’s that for lazy, eh?). Unfortunately I still didn’t finish it, so SN2 still sits in its plastic rapper collecting dust(good thing I kept it in the rapper). Though since my DS is falling apart, I might as well. Not only do the L and R buttons still not work, but I lost my last stylus on Friday. I guess this will force me to finish DQH: Rocket slime, and be thankful Namco made D-pad controls for Tales of the Tempest. I try not to think about all the DS games I should be playing if I had a functional DS…so….many…games. Oh wait, I have the new Kirby, woohoo! I’m guessing it should mostly be playable with the D-pad. Expect impressions of that next week! ;)

For the meantime, I’m going to continue my weekend streak of laziness by posting the fascinating video of Jack Thompson in court, I found on gamevideos(.com). It’s also lightly humorous, watch it! It gets better about halfway if you can’t stand the beginning. So, just skip ahead if you must).

Happy Halloween!…one more thing, whenever someone mentions “Halloween” I will now always have this random image in my head thanks to Impress watch TV.

Going (to) Game-crazy

Just as I predicted, I’m flooded with way too many games to play. On friday I got the call to pick up Summon night: swordcraft story2, finally. But I shouldn’t have, apparently friday is not the best day to go to the game store(despite my awesome gamecrazy). For one, the service guy behind the counter was totally out of it: “huh?…uh…what was I doing agian?” and there were noobish-geeks distracting him from what I wanted him to do: “so what’s up with valkyrie profile two?”(It’s the second valkyrie profile, what the hell else is there?! Go away!).
Luckily I got my copy of Summon night2, put down 20bucks towards Yggrda union, and got out alive. Which he then forgot to give me the receipt for…he better have entered me in the computer or else I’ll track him down and beat him with an Xbox360 power supply(swinging it by the cord).
…(ok, maybe not, but I’ll demand my 20 bucks back…)
Getting back to SM2, I havn’t actually been able to play it(It’s still in the thin plastic rapper, wich is really tempting to rip open). Instead I’ve been “working” on homework and playing Gunypey reverse DS.

The actual game of Gunpey is to connect lines from one side of the screen to the other and make bigger chains along the way. Making bigger chains is where the challange comes in. Like Tetris, I know there’s a formula to it but I can’t seem to put my finger on it. So the best way is to just experiment with shapes/patterns and see which way is the fastest and most effective way to clearing your screen. Being fast is key(half of it at least). New peices will appear faster as time progresses in a match and making big chains takes time. Also, clearing your screen is helpful in that you randomly(slot machine style) use one of the few deterrents on your opponent. I’m not quite sure what all of them do, but a common one changes the opponents pieces at random wich can be a good or a bad thing in my opinion. It was used on me once and I found it very helpful! While playing against people who have a solid formula, I can also see these events as a way to balance the game nicely.(well done Q!)

However Gunpey goes beyond the puzzle gameplay and adds a good deal of both visual and musical art to the game. Some levels sound better than others, but it’s worth progressing through them to get to the good ones. Well, actually, I just don’t really like the western one in specific. It’s kind of dull and disappointed my first impressions of Gunpey. Which have obviously changed after playing other brilliant and fun levels. Once you feel like doing something different after playing hours of Gunpey, there’s a separate program inside of Gunpey called “Pico pico machine”. Basically it’s a sample mixer for DS with lots of options. It takes patience to experiment, and takes some decent skill to constantly transition different sounds, but it can be done and very fun. Maybe if I can find a two-way cable, I’ll use a combo of Pico Pico machine, Electroplankton, some DS homebrew music apps, and Audacity to put together something worth listening to. :)

That’s it for Gunpey reverse DS, now I’m off to play….

-More Gunpey DS (I’m not done playing it, and knowing me and puzzle games, I never will.)
-Finish Summon night1
-Finish Dragon quest heroes: Rocket slime
-Start playing Custom robo
-Start playing Summon night2
-Maybe play the English version of Children of mana
-Maybe play the English version Magical Starsign
-Maybe play Contact and see if it’s actually good or not
-Play the million other games I never finished(ie: Earthbound, Metroid prime…all of them, Crono Trigger, and Golden sun…both.)

That does it for this week’s blog! Thank you for reading!
